Hear a WCOM sampler

One way to catch up on a variety of WCOM shows aside from listening live online or on 103.5 FM is to find podcasts, but as part of a grant application process we came up with an introduction and sampler that gives new listeners a feel for some of our talk shows. Listen in here.

In the Beginning...

Our first on-air broadcasts five years ago were two "info-mercials", one in English, one in Spanish, telling our new listeners what we were about. We didn't have a studio yet, so these broadcasts came from a CD player at our transmitter site (at Scroggs Elementary), playing on a loop to fulfill the FCC requirements for being "on the air". They were pretty entertaining, still are! Listen to the English version, relive those days of yesteryear:

Freedom of Expression

"Three reasons why freedom of expression is essential to a free society."

"It's the foundation of self-fulfillment.  The right to express one's thoughts and to communicate freely with others affirms the dignity and worth of each and every member of society, and allows each individual to realize his or her full human potential.  Thus, freedom of expression is an end in itself - and as such, derves society's greatest protection.

The Heart of Carrboro

Written by Lisa Marie.

What makes a place special? In the end, it’s the people of course. It’s the people that decide how to spend their time and where they will gather. And in Carrboro, it can certainly be argued that Weaver Street Market is the heart of Carrboro.

Carrboro by any assessment is a progressive town and nowhere is it more evident than on a balmy Thursday evening at Weaver Street Market listening to live music. There are always some local characters milling about, or more likely dancing along to the music. There are hula hoopers and children running around the lawn playing or dancing to the music too, often joined by their parents.
